About 250 residents live on the island

Agios Stratis will become the first energy self-sufficient island in the first quarter of 2024.

Ai Stratis will be a pioneer in terms of energy autonomy, thanks to a wind power station with an installed capacity of 0.9 MW, a photovoltaic station with a maximum production capacity of 0.2268 MW, storage batteries with a storage capacity of 2.56 MWh, a station for the production of thermal energy and an energy distribution and supply network.

Agios Stratis, with approximately 250 inhabitants, is going to be transformed into the first green island of Greece, with a penetration of Renewable Energy Sources of more than 85%, energy storage, district heating and hot water supply to residents, thanks to the innovation of KAPE (Centre for Renewable Energy Sources) and the expertise of Terna Energy, in close cooperation with the municipal authority. However, the oil-fired power plant existing on the island will not stop its operation, the mayor of Agios Efstratios Maria Kakali pointed out.
